Nights out with the "girl of my dreams"
Something missing from my world
We were high on ice
And it tasted nice

Running through pain
Running from shame
Running away
Hey what's your name
Take me away

Months went by your tried and tried
She and I finally died
Yes I cried I might've lied
I think you're nice you called me twice

We broke in the New Year
While I was drunk I couldn't hear
A year later now we're standing here
2020 Vision yeah I'm Listening

Listening
Listen, Listening
Listening
Li- Li- Li- Listening
Listening
Listen, Listening

This time, I know it's right
I will never let you go
You can count on me
You will see

I have my faults
Not all is lost
I know the cost just stay with me
I'll never leave

We broke in the New Year
While I was drunk I couldn't hear
A year later now we're standing here
2020 Vision yeah I'm Listening

Listening
Listen, Listening
Listening
Li- Li- Li- Listening
Listening
Listen, Listening
Listening
Li- Li- Li- Listening

Hey boy
Stop chasing those girls
Who wasting your time cause
I'm not afraid
Won't play with your mind
Your truth makes me high
I'm everything that's right

We broke in the New Year
While I was drunk I couldn't hear
A year later now we're standing here
2020 Vision yeah I'm Listening

Jay-Elle - Listening ft. Cenza (Interview)

Interview

We are today with Jay-Elle who owns a super innovative sound.

Jay-Elle we want to get to know you better, tell us about yourself.

I’m Jay-Elle and I’m a Brooklyn based singer/songwriter, producer and mixing engineer. This record was literally made in my bedroom so I’m proud to say that this new "work from home" culture has me thriving.
I come from a performance and filmmaking background so I look forward to continuing to develop the creative direction of Jay-Elle, through not only sound but also visuals.

We would like to know your history as an artist.

When I was a kid, I learned guitar and piano by ear and by hanging around people who played both better than me. In highschool, I joined a jazz choir which led to my passion for vocal harmony. One of my favorite things to do is write harmonies and you’ll hear it as an important element in all of my work. Music is my creative lane where I can create without pressure. It’s so important to have this for ourselves as artists. I studied acting and filmmaking at NYU so it’s nice to say that music is something I’ve always done on my own and with the people around me, not with a teacher looking over my shoulder.

Tell us the story of this song.

I started writing this song at the end of 2019 – exactly a year after I had broken free from an unhealthy relationship I believed was perfect. After that relationship, I gave up.
I finally made peace with the idea that what I wanted and what I needed were two different things. And just like that, the person I’m still with today walked into my life. This song is for her.
I always believed that 2020 would be a year of intense learning and personal growth – I didn’t realize it would look like this.

Tell us a funny story from your career.

Yeah, so the way I got Cenza to feature on the record is actually pretty funny. Apparently, we both wanted to work together but were too nervous to ask each other outright. We each kept harassing our mutual screenwriter friend Taylor to set up a meeting to connect us. Finally, he planned this night out with a bunch of friends and invited us both. When Cenza and I got there, we realized we were the only two friends he invited.

Also tell a story of overcoming.

My parents went through a long and painful divorce and now live on opposite coasts. My work, in terms of balancing relationships with each of them as well as having balanced romantic relationships, was certainly cut out for me. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but by being curious, asking questions and listening to the answers, the work doesn’t feel like work at all.

Leave a message for your fans.

To those of you coming on the ride for the first time, welcome. And for those of you who have been on the ride before, thank you for coming back.

Jay-Elle was a great pleasure to have you here. We wish you success and happiness.

And see you in the next interview. Bye!
